At the core of our curriculum is a structured programme of Literacy and Numeracy (following guidance from the Primary Framework for Literacy and Numeracy).  We have a structured approach to teaching phonics through the Letters and Sounds Scheme of the Primary Framework. Home-school books in Upper Foundation Stage which develop into reading records/ homework diaries help give parents / carers opportunities to communicate with school and so aid childrens learning.  We value reading highly and children take home a book every evening throughout the school.  We have a range of schemes including Oxford Reading Tree and Storyworlds (Heinemann).

The community, both local and global, is important to us and we have strong links with the Church and local schools and have run projects with European and African schools.

We want to inspire pupils through the creative curriculum and creative teaching.  We plan whole school topics that involve outings and visitors to school.
We have an exciting curriculum, for example the Infant Class have regular walks in the local countryside. Children put on their wellies, coats and rucksacks and explore the local farms, fields and woods. This provides opportunities to discuss and look at plants, habitats, shadows, historical buildings, 3D maps and problem solving. This develops children’s appreciation for the world we live in.

This is further developed in the Forest Schools Project followed in Class 2 where a qualified leader explores the outdoors.  Problem solving and team building are developed through a range of activities
eg building dens (or igloos in the snow) or toasting marshmallows on the fire.
